The only thing better than photographing two people in love – is when one of the people you are photographing is someone YOU love as well! Rainy is one of my dearest friends and someone who I am so thankful to have in my life. She and her daughter Hannah were there when Roger and I got married (which sounds like no big deal to most people, but our wedding day had a mere 25 guests!) and now we get the opportunity to be there for her wedding!! Hands down the main thing I hoped when they chose their wedding day was that they’d choose one that we were not already booked with a wedding. I didn’t need to be the photographer, (even though if they had someone else I would be one of those Guests With a Camera that I loathe) I just needed to be THERE. To watch her marry the most perfect man who she is destined to spend forever with. Her best friend, Nick.
Nick… it takes about 2.5 milliseconds to see why Rainy is head over heels for him. He is so incredibly genuine and handsome and caring and just all around amazing. The kind of guy that urban legends are made of. You hear about this kind of guy – but you never really meet him. He’s THAT guy. The wonderful man your parents prayed you would find. (P.S. – he’s taken. duh!)
I’ll save my gushy professions of love for their wedding post (because somehow out of all the photographers in the world – we were lucky enough to be chosen. No pressure.) because this post is about them, not me. So here is their love story…
Rainy and Nick met through a mutual friend. Running into each other often at social gatherings, the two quickly became friends. Both have the ability to have fun in any situation so it was a given that they hit it off. Rainy claims that initially she thought Nick was adorable, but maybe a little short for her. Regardless, she fell for him fast because he was the most sincere and honest man she’d ever met. He treated her better than she knew she could be treated. And he was equally as taken with her.
After they began to date, Nick met the other girl he fell head over heels for – Rainy’s daughter Hannah. It takes a very special man to openly accept a child that isn’t their own into their heart, but Nick loved Hannah and treated her like his own from the very beginning. He is truly a blessing to both of their lives.
After quite some time of dating – the two took some time off to grow and mature on their own. They didn’t know how things would end up for them as a couple, but even throughout that time of finding themselves there wasn’t a time where they didn’t still think about the other. They continued to keep in contact and still had a connection that never was lost. Neither one is sure of an exact moment where they were “back together” – fate just slowly moved their paths in the same direction. In taking time to find themselves, they found that they couldn’t move further forward without the other by their side. Funny the way it is, if you think about it.
Nick decided to make it official on a trip to Las Vegas this March. After several failed attempts to get up the courage throughout the trip, there – in the car ride to the airport headed home, Nick asked the chauffeur if he minded if he proposed to his girlfriend. He then gave Rainy his mother’s wedding ring and asked her to be his best friend for the rest of his life. Tears rolling down her face, she said yes. Nick then showed her another ring – for the other love of his life Hannah. To symbolize their joining as a family – he had a ring made with all 3 of their birth stones to give to her when he proposed. (Told you he was amazing.)
After 9 years, Rainy and Nick will tie the knot this New Year’s Eve surrounded by family, and friends, and love and happiness. I know I – along with a wealth of other people are overjoyed to see these two become husband and wife, and the three officially become a family.
Enjoy Rainy and Nick (and Hannah’s!) session!
