SARAH + CODY

Sarah and Cody met the Summer of 2011 through mutual friends. Sarah’s first impression of Cody was that he was a bad influence and a trouble maker. Cody however could not wait to Sarah again.  They were just kids really, so it’s hard to say what their initial attraction was to the other.  Especially after an awkward first date in January 2012 when they went to the Marvel Theatre in Carlinville, Illinois. They saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which was not a good first date movie for kids in a high school. It was very awkward and a disaster. Despite the start, they became high school sweethearts. Cody can make Sarah smile and laugh just about anytime. And Cody adores Sarah’s sense of humor.

On July 20, 2019 Sarah and Cody went to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. “I was not expecting him to propose because my Mom was with us and Cody said no family would be there when he proposed. We were looking at the view and when I turned around Cody was down on one knee. I was so surprised, I jumped back. My Mom was able to record the proposal.”

When the two planned their wedding they knew they wanted an outdoor wedding in the fall, with the cool weather and leaves changing colors. They didn’t exactly get what they envisioned 100%.  Not only were some of their family not able to attend because they were recovering from Covid-19, the weather that day was unseasonably warm and our fall colors hadn’t started turning yet!  But their main goal was to enjoy their day with family and friends, and for everyone to have a great time with their family and friends.  After 9.5 years of dating, all that mattered was that at the end of the day the two were husband and wife.

Enjoy a peek at Sarah and Cody’s wedding day! Sarah wore an off-white dress with a lot of beadwork and sparkle. The two chose Mount Hope in Calhoun County IL for their venue. “We knew we wanted a barn/outdoor wedding and reception. After looking at a couple of venue’s we fell in love with the country setting of Mt. Hope.”The two wrote out their entire ceremony. It was filled with personal touches and beautiful moments.Sarah and Cody choose to use glass crystals in place of a unity candle or sand. The glass crystals were poured into one vase which will be made into a glass sculpture. I definitely lost it during this moment and still lose it looking at the photos.  Sarah gave her Nannie and Papa drawings she had made in memory of her maternal grandpa and paternal grandma depicting them with angel wings.  This was SUCH an emotional moment to witness, and her Nannie and Papa were both so touched by the gift.  It would have been her maternal Grandmother and Grandfather’s 51st wedding anniversary.

First dance song: Perfect by Ed SheeranThe moments of the reception will stay with the couple forever. “Bringing our friends from high school together with our family and new friends in Washington is something we’ll never forget! Everyone had a great time together! We would like to thank our family and friends for helping make our day special!”MUSIC:

By the end of the evening, the groom and groomsmen were wearing vests and bow ties with no shirts and coats. Sarah and Cody left Illinois not knowing where Cody’s coat was. “We discovered on Monday it was taking a road trip with one of the groomsmen to Georgia. Try explaining that to the tux shop.”

Sarah and Cody’s advice for future couples getting married is to not worry about the little things! “Take more time to enjoy the few days before and the day of!”

The two call Orting, Washington home and look forward to growing old together.
