It’s like stepping into Cracker Barrell really. Your greeted with a down home welcome, invited to kick back in a rocker, George Straight billowing through the speakers, cowboy boots, mason jars, tractors and comfort. We knew Ashley & Brent’s day would be one of our favorites of 2011. A little peeved we weren’t selected to photograph Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert’s wedding, we knew Ashley & Brent’s wedding day was going to be the next best thing. Beautiful, down home beauty. And LOTS and LOTS of love. Enjoy Brent & Ashley’s wedding day!
They’ve known each other many years. He grew up across the street from her Grandma Garcia. They’d gone to plenty of events and occasions together as friends but never dated per se. In 2003 they went to her aunt and uncle’s Christmas party – who just happened to also be his friends. Sometimes it just takes opening your eyes to a possibility that you’d never really seen before, and that night they did just that. Since that December evening, Christine & Juan have spent every weekend together ever since.
They both worked at the Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake. They worked different shifts on different days in different departments, but on that Monday they had something very similar take place. They’d both been dumped. A coworker, realizing that both had been dumped on the same date decided to play matchmaker and get the ball rolling. After giving Bret Amanda’s number, he called her. Instantly there was something about her that he liked. They set a date to go to the movies that next Monday – exactly 1 week after they’d both been dumped.
I got chills writing the blog title. You see, Bre and I have been the closest of friends since the 8th grade. This engagement post has been one I’ve been looking forward to sharing before the session even happened. Engagement session blogs aren’t written from our perspective like the wedding day blogs are, so while I want to tell you how I’ve never seen my friend smile the way she does when she looks at Brett, and how being around her now is like being around an entire new person because I’ve never seen her so happy and complete, instead I’ll tell you more about it on their wedding day post (which will be certain to be entertaining, since I am a bridesmaid and Roger and I are photographing!) and for now tell you their love story!
He moved to her hometown while in the 3rd grade. When she started noticing boys, she had a crush on him right away. However he was too busy with football to notice her yet. When she was 15 and he was 16, he finally noticed. He had her over for dinner and to watch a movie at his parent’s house. She thought the movie (Van Wilder) was great, and the dinner (spaghetti) was not. They had their first kiss that night, and when it was over Derek smoothly said “that wasn’t very good, let’s try that again.” They dated off and on throughout high school, went away to Illinois State University, and grew so close that they knew they wanted to spend their lives together.
