Tamika & Mitch met at church. They’d gone to school together, but only “knew of”one another before that time. Not really looking for a relationship, Tamka blew off Mitch’s interest in her a few times. Finally during a conversation about a bowling event for local college students Tamika jokingly asked Mitch if he wanted to go since they were both taking a year off of college. He sent a text later that night asking if she was serious and she figured why not. She made sure that she was the one to pick him up that night, and upon arriving to a packed bowling alley – they opted to catch a movie and enjoyed one another’s company the entire evening.
When they started dating officially they vowed to be committed to one another 100%, so it wasn’t very long before they began discussing marriage. In April 2009 Mitch let her know that he wanted to marry her in 5 years after school was done and things were established. It seemed like forever, but they made it through. In summer of 2012, at a church camp where they were both camp counselors, Mitch complained he was nervous. They’d performed a million times for the kids and she couldn’t figure out why he’d be nervous. They performed as they always did, but as she was walking away from the stage afterwards she noticed Mitch was still up there. On the mic. She could hear him telling their love story and asking her to come back to the stage. In front of everyone he dropped to one knee. It was all a blur and she didn’t really know what was happening. Processing the moment with the lights shinning on her and the kids yelling was impossible – so she said yes, hugged Mitch, and left. She laughs about how awkward it was and how she just took the ring and walked away. Luckily – someone had filmed the moment!! You can watch the proposal HERE!!!
After changing the date of the wedding a couple times they decided on April 4th of 2014. After setting the date she started thinking back on the day that Mitch promised her that he would marry her in 5 years. She had narrowed it down to the first week of April, but after a conversation with his mom she discovered that he’d made that promise on April 3rd, 2009 – making their wedding date 5 years and 1 day after he made that promise!! The couple look forward to fulfilling promises for the rest of their lives!!
Enjoy a few images from Tamika & Mitch’s session, which included a few with Tamika’s adorable son. It’s so nice to see two people not only committing themselves to one another, but to family as well. Congrats you 3!! Can’t wait for the big day!!
