Sometimes it’s immediate. There is a spark right off the bat. There is an easiness about the relationship, and it feels like you’ve known the other your entire life. Soul mates if you will. At this point, I’m sure you think I’m talking about the relationship between Whitney & Kurt. Although those things would certainly apply, I was referring to the relationship Roger and I have with them. That’s what you want to know about, right? How much WE love them? I’ll bring this all back to them eventually I swear. For now, let me tell you about why we adore them so much.
In no particular order here are a few of the many reasons…
Since my son’s name is Curtis, I automatically like people with the same name. Do other mothers do this? Maybe it’s just me. And Kurt spells his with a K which is how I wanted to spell my Curtis’s name, but that’s a different story altogether.
Whitney is so adorable and appreciative and I loved her from the first email she ever sent.
Through getting to know them, they kind of remind Roger and I of a younger, better looking, version of us. Like when he rolls his eyes about the way she loads the dishwasher wrong, or how they have to go back to the house every time they leave because Whitney can’t remember if she turned her straightening iron off or not… (as far as I’m concerned this is normal behavior, but somehow these men find it odd)
They laugh at my jokes most of the time. Roger insists this is out of pity, but I really get the feeling it’s genuine. Roger has no appreciation for how hilarious I am.
Kurt pays attention to you when you talk and has a way of reading between the lines and figuring you out. I just made that sound creepy, but it’s very endearing I assure you.
I can’t tell you how many times Whitney put her trust in us and said “Whatever you want to do is great with us, you are the professional.” You have no idea how magical those words are. I could have married her myself the first time she said that!!
But none of these things are the main reason we adore these two, although it does add to the equation. The reasons we love these two can’t be described in a way that would make perfect sense to anyone else. It’s a feeling, it’s the little things you observe when they don’t know they are being watched, it’s the way they let you know how much you mean to them, the kindness they display, and their thoughtful, careful nature. It’s what happens when something is just perfect because it is. Because you didn’t work to make it that way. You didn’t try to be someone you aren’t, you were accepted as you are because despite everything else – it just works. Whitney & Kurt give us hope. A shining example to others, they remind us of everything good out there in this world. That when you have nothing left in this world you can bet on – to bet on love.
I’ve told you our story about Whitney & Kurt – now it’s my honor to tell you their’s.
Upon showing up at the location where Whitney & Kurt were going to have their first look, I personally was in a tizzy of excitement. I knocked on Whitney’s hotel room door certain that there was going to be a dance party inside and that everyone was like me (and had too much coffee) and was ready to burst with excitement. I was in “the zone”. Apparently no one else was in that zone. It was calm as could be in that bridal suite and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why everyone was so quiet and not dancing like I expected. And then Whitney showed me the sweet letter and gift Kurt had given her and explained how it had made everyone including her, cry. I couldn’t even read the first 2 lines and had to stop. I was staying in my zone gosh darn it. (Roger has since asked that I not drink that much coffee on a wedding day.)
Those magical words that Whitney said to us about us being the professionals and doing what we think is best??? Well, she said those words to Becky Huffman too, so I KNEW the flowers and vibe of the wedding was going to be mind-blowing. And here is where my mind was first officially blown. I encouraged a round of applause when these bouquets were delivered. True story.
Here’s something you should know about Whitney & Kurt – they have mad face. Now, I speak my own language so I may have made that term up, but it has nothing to do with their faces looking mad. It means that the camera loves them, that their angles are flawless, and they are straight up gorgeous. Be jealous.
Whitney. You rock my world. Their aren’t enough adjectives to describe your beauty inside or out.
And Kurtis…sweet Kurtis. Even though you once said that I reminded you of Janeane Garofalo, I still made sure your photos were flattering. Let’s be honest… it wasn’t a tough job. I adore you. (and Roger does too, but in a man way.)(mind still blowing)A sweet first look…Do these two look like models or what?!?
If we could have – we would have photographed these two at this spot all day. Magical.
Roger made my dreams come true with this shot. LOVE.
My talented husband was hired this winter by Becky Huffman to build a chuppah/arbor for her to be able to rent for weddings. Anything Roger builds he puts a lot of time and thought into. The first couple who rented the finished product happened to be Whitney and Kurt, so we had the opportunity to see it with Becky’s magnificent creation added to it first hand. So glad Roger was able to perfect his skills so he can make something similar for our back patio. 😉
(Mind officially exploded)
I feel ya little one – some times you just have to dance.
We love it when a couple let us drag them away from their reception for a bit to steal some night time images when the opportunity arises. We made have had a little hike in order to make it happen, but it was worth it!!
Whitney & Kurt,
I don’t think that you could possibly not know by now how much we adore you, and how thankful we are that we have gained life long friends when we got the opportunity to preserve your wedding day memories. We look forward to watching your love grow and succeed, and we hope you know that we will be cheering for you along the way. You two will always hold a special place in our hearts.
There isn’t enough space in a blog post to hold as many great images as there are to share of this day, so check out this slideshow for more!!
