He was hired by her dad to build a shed at their family farm. Brooke’s family were switching over their milking system and she got stuck milking cows late at night after all the workers were gone for the day. But she noticed Craig kept sticking around after working all day, and he offered to lend a hand and milk cows with her. He’d been asking her dad if he could take her out on a date, and he kept explaining she had some other boy she was seeing. Bound and determined to get that date after all, Craig continued to flirt with her while he was working at the farm. He wrote messages to her on a dry erase board and she’d coyly message back. As people started to point out their flirting, she exclaimed there was no way she would be dating a guy with tattoos and that chewed tobacco. How could she of known she’d not only date him – but that he’d some day be her husband…
He finally got that date he’d asked her dad for, and a little over a year later he’d be asking her dad for something again – this time it was to marry his daughter. After he got permission he had it all planned out. At the Meyer Electric Christmas he’d ask her in front of everyone, including her mom and grandma. When the evening came, he was feeling nervous and decided to get some liquid courage which ended with Brooke having to take him home early. The next day he could barely make eye contact with her at breakfast. So she did what any frustrated girl would do to pay him back for the night before… she took him grocery shopping.
When they got home she was quietly unloading their groceries while he brought them inside from the car. With her back turned, he approached her and she turned to him to see him holding a beautiful diamond ring. He told her he loved her and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, and through her tears of joy she said yes!!! (And they forgot all about those groceries still laying on the counter!)
She later asked her daddy if he knew about the proposal and he admitted that he’d helped him with the plan to propose the night before, but after he could tell Craig was too nervous he fed him a few more drinks to make sure he got a good night sleep. Craig admits he failed public speaking and didn’t know why he thought he could pull off a proposal in front of so many people. Brooke will admit that all the good things in life… happen because of shopping. 😉
