I got chills writing the blog title. You see, Bre and I have been the closest of friends since the 8th grade. This engagement post has been one I’ve been looking forward to sharing before the session even happened. Engagement session blogs aren’t written from our perspective like the wedding day blogs are, so while I want to tell you how I’ve never seen my friend smile the way she does when she looks at Brett, and how being around her now is like being around an entire new person because I’ve never seen her so happy and complete, instead I’ll tell you more about it on their wedding day post (which will be certain to be entertaining, since I am a bridesmaid and Roger and I are photographing!) and for now tell you their love story!

He moved to her hometown while in the 3rd grade. When she started noticing boys, she had a crush on him right away. However he was too busy with football to notice her yet. When she was 15 and he was 16, he finally noticed. He had her over for dinner and to watch a movie at his parent’s house. She thought the movie (Van Wilder) was great, and the dinner (spaghetti) was not. They had their first kiss that night, and when it was over Derek smoothly said “that wasn’t very good, let’s try that again.” They dated off and on throughout high school, went away to Illinois State University, and grew so close that they knew they wanted to spend their lives together.
Word at the ice rink eventually got back to him that Casey, the cute blonde that worked with him though he was cute. Clearly he agreed because he worked up the courage to ask her out. He beat around the bush and made small talk, but eventually he asked if she would come watch his hockey game and then let him take her to dinner. He asked a co-worker what her favorite restaurant was, and when they got to the steakhouse, she ordered chicken to seem low maintenance. She still feels that was pretty sly and that she totally fooled him!
Shiloh and Ryan grew up in the same hometown, so essentially the knew each other for years, but it wasn’t until 2009 when he came to see her as a patient that they really got a chance to connect. Apparently while “on his death bed” one of the nurses Shiloh worked with told Ryan that they’d make a good couple. After a few meds and some great conversation, he started to agree.
According to Allison, they met at his birthday party in August 2008. According to Nate, it was a beer pong tournament a good 5 months later. A friend encouraged her to come meet some new friends at a get together. How would she know that a simple invitation would chance the entire course of her life?
What hooked her immediately was the fact that when a song from her favorite movie “Newsies” came on, Nate recognized it and threw on a newsboys cap and vest and shamelessly make a fool of himself. What can you say? Sometimes all it takes is one little thing to make you see something you normally may have looked past. Right there amongst old and new friends, there was no better way to win Allison’s heart. A few days after, they went on their first date.
